Day 103: I statement

Dan Esmail - 4/13/2023

Intro

Today I wanted to work on my writing a little since it doesn't always get the most attention. One thing I struggle with a lot in these blog posts is using too many I statements. Knowing that I've taken some time to look up better ways to start sentences and avoid using I too much

Fixes

Some of the fixes that liminal pages were suggesting were to swap the clauses, start with a prepositional phrase, or cut out unnecessary actions. These have helped me think for a second before I add I to the start of my sentence or even to the sentence being written. One of the biggest things that I took away is that you could just put I somewhere else into the sentence and it would help alleviate the sentence a little.

Something else that I have seen articles talking about is passive voice. It seems that a bunch of writers have different opinions about passive voice. I'm still trying to figure out what the heck is a passive voice so I have a better understanding of it. From dictionary.com 'A Verb is in the passive voice when the subject of the sentence is acted on by the verb'. From what I can tell this just means if the verb acts on the object it is passive but when someone is doing the verb it's active. This is just my best guess at what this means.

Conclusion

There was a lot of information that was helpful while doing this research. A lot of the quick fixes I've learned have added a little bit to my writing. I'll have to look up more about passive voice throughout this journey. Taking that all in though has helped.
